James Osberg is a historian
and political scientist with bachelor’s and master’s degrees
in Latin American studies from the University of New Mexico and from Southern
Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC). His Ph.D. is in comparative
and international education.Dr. Osberg has worked in industry, government, and higher education. He has served as assistant regional manager for Latin America for Bell & Howell; director of international contract programs at SIUC; assistant to the governor for education in the state of Illinois; director of the World Trade Institute of the World Trade Center Illinois; and as the current director of international economic development at SIUC. Dr. Osberg serves as the executive director of the Illinois Consortium for International Education, which represents 112 public and private higher education institutions in Illinois. In addition, he chairs the Illinois Board of Education’s International Education Industry Advisory Council, which advises institutions on international workforce preparation and other policy issues related to industry’s international needs.
